Scanly ("the App") is a document scanning app developed by Lume Labs ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles and the choices you have. In short: your scans, PDFs, signatures and extracted text stay on your device, and we do not operate a server that receives them.
1. Documents and files you create
Scanly lets you scan documents, IDs and receipts, apply filters, sign documents, extract text, create and merge PDFs, and organize them in folders. The following is created by you and stored locally in the App's private storage on your device:
- Scanned pages and thumbnails
- Document details (title, scan mode, folder) and text extracted from your scans
- Folders you create
- Signatures you save
Scanly does not upload your documents, signatures or extracted text to Lume Labs or to any server operated by us. We therefore do not receive this content.
2. Camera, photos and files
The App asks for permission to use your camera to scan documents. You can withdraw this permission at any time in your device settings, although scanning will then not be available.
When you import photos or PDFs, the App uses your device's system photo and file pickers, so you choose exactly which files to share with the App. On Android 10 and earlier, the App may request storage permission to save a PDF to your Downloads folder.
The App may also ask for permission to show notifications. This is optional, and you can change it at any time in your device settings.
3. Saving and sharing
You decide when a document leaves the App. You can save a PDF to your Downloads folder, save a page as an image to your photo gallery, or share a file through Android's share sheet. Files you save or share are then outside the App: they are handled by the app you share them with (for example email or cloud storage), under that app's own privacy policy, and are not removed when you delete a document in Scanly.
Temporary files created to prepare a share are stored on your device in temporary storage.
4. Text recognition and scanning
The "Extract text" feature uses Google ML Kit text recognition. The text in your document is recognized on your device; the App does not send your images to Lume Labs. The camera scanner uses Google's document scanner component provided through Google Play services. These Google components are provided by Google and are subject to Google's terms and privacy practices.
5. Fonts and network access
The App requests internet access and may download font files from Google Fonts. When it does, Google receives a standard network request, which may include your IP address and device information. This request does not include your documents.
6. Crash reports and notifications (Firebase)
Scanly uses Firebase, a service provided by Google, for two purposes:
- Crash reporting (Firebase Crashlytics): if the App crashes, a crash report may be sent to help us find and fix the problem. A report can include technical information such as your device model, operating system version, app version, the state of the App at the time of the crash, and a Firebase installation identifier.
- Notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging): to send you notifications from the App, Firebase assigns your device a messaging token, which is used only to deliver notifications to your device. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
Google may also receive technical information such as your IP address as part of providing these services. Crash reports and notification tokens do not include the contents of your documents, scans, signatures or extracted text. See Firebase's privacy information.
Scanly does not create user accounts. Preferences such as your theme, review-prompt counters and premium status are stored only on your device.
7. Reviews
After you use the App for a while, it may offer to open Google Play's in-app review prompt. Any review you submit is handled by Google Play.
8. Premium, purchases and ads
Documents you export from Scanly carry a Scanly watermark. You can remove it in one of two ways: by subscribing to Scanly Premium, or by watching a rewarded ad for the export.
Premium subscription. Subscriptions are purchased and managed through Google Play. Payments are processed by Google Play, and we do not receive or store your payment card details. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in the Google Play Store.
Ads. Rewarded ads are provided by Google AdMob. When an ad is shown, AdMob may collect and use information such as your device's advertising identifier, IP address, device and app information, and how you interact with the ad, in order to show and measure ads. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses data in advertising. You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalization in your device's settings. Your documents are never shared with advertisers.
9. Data retention and deletion
Your documents stay on your device until you delete them. Deleted documents move to the Trash and are removed permanently after 30 days, or sooner if you choose Empty trash. To erase everything at once, open Settings → Clear all data, which deletes your documents, folders and saved signatures. This keeps your simple preferences such as theme. Uninstalling the App also removes its data.
Depending on your device and its settings, Android's backup features may include app data in your device backups. Because we do not hold your documents on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete. To ask a question or make a request, please contact us.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, to withdraw consent, or to object to certain processing. You can manage your documents directly in the App. To exercise any other right, contact us using the details below.
11. Data security
Your documents are stored in the App's private storage on your device. Because they may include sensitive information such as IDs and contracts, please protect your device with a screen lock, and be careful where you save or share files. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised date.
